Clear, thorough, and genuinely useful

A superb guide. The examples are small but complete.

This is the third book I have read on simulation this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. I found myself making notes in the margins, which is always a good sign. A few of the examples could be more realistic, but the underlying points come across clearly. The book rewards careful reading. Skimming it would be a mistake. This is the book I wish had existed when I started working with simulation.

Good, but not for absolute beginners

Good book. The writing is direct and the author is honest about limits.

There is a particular kind of technical book that is dense without being difficult, and this is one of them. There is a section near the end that ties several earlier ideas together in a way I had not seen before. The code samples assume a particular environment, which took a bit of fiddling to get running properly. A couple of chapters felt like they could have been merged, but that is a minor complaint. Worth picking up if you already have the basics. Set realistic expectations and you will get a lot out of it.
