Clear, thorough, and genuinely useful

Outstanding. I kept finding reasons to come back to it.

This is the third book I have read on programming this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. A couple of chapters felt like they could have been merged, but that is a minor complaint. Some of the diagrams are dense and I had to reread a few sections, though that may just be me. An easy five stars from me. I look forward to whatever the author writes next.

Excellent from start to finish

A genuinely enjoyable read that also taught me a great deal.

This is the third book I have read on game programming this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. The index and cross-references are surprisingly good, which matters for a book I will come back to. The chapters on game programming are the strongest — the examples are stripped down but complete, and I could follow along without constant guessing. This is the book I wish had existed when I started working with game programming.

Strong content, uneven pacing

An enjoyable and informative read, though it could have been shorter.

I bought this on a whim after seeing it mentioned in a forum thread, and I am glad I did. I appreciated the honesty about what the book does not cover — it saved me from expecting things that were not there. The author clearly knows the subject deeply and has thought hard about how to teach it. The chapters on webgpu are the strongest — the examples are stripped down but complete, and I could follow along without constant guessing. Good value for the price and worth the time it takes to work through properly.

Not quite what I expected

Not quite what I expected from the description, but there is material here.

This is the third book I have read on game development this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. Some of the diagrams are dense and I had to reread a few sections, though that may just be me. Some of the material is available elsewhere, but rarely presented this clearly. I appreciated the honesty about what the book does not cover — it saved me from expecting things that were not there. Fine, but there are stronger books on the same subject if you look around.

Highly recommended

Outstanding. I kept finding reasons to come back to it.

This is the third book I have read on programming this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. The early chapters move quickly through material I already knew, but the later sections were genuinely new to me. The examples are small enough to type out and experiment with, which is exactly what I want from a book like this. Some of the diagrams are dense and I had to reread a few sections, though that may just be me. One of those books that pays for itself within the first few chapters. Highly recommended.

Almost excellent

An enjoyable and informative read, though it could have been shorter.

I had been on the fence about this one for a while, and I should have bought it sooner. The explanations are careful without being condescending, which is a difficult balance to strike. The early chapters move quickly through material I already knew, but the later sections were genuinely new to me. Solid, and I would buy another book from this author without hesitation.
