Finally, an explanation that clicks
The clearest explanation of graphics I have come across.
I was looking for something that would bridge the gap between tutorials and proper reference material, and this does that well. There is a section near the end that ties several earlier ideas together in a way I had not seen before. I appreciated the honesty about what the book does not cover — it saved me from expecting things that were not there. It is denser than the page count suggests, and I found myself slowing down around the middle. Worth the money and the reading time, without hesitation.
Mixed feelings. The good parts are genuinely good; the rest is forgettable.
I read this over a couple of weekends alongside a small side project, which turned out to be the ideal way to approach it. The author clearly knows the subject deeply and has thought hard about how to teach it. The code samples assume a particular environment, which took a bit of fiddling to get running properly. The writing is direct and does not waste space on filler, which I value in a technical book. Three stars feels about right. It will stay on my shelf, but it will not be the first one I reach for.
Good book. The writing is direct and the author is honest about limits.
I had been on the fence about this one for a while, and I should have bought it sooner. A few of the examples could be more realistic, but the underlying points come across clearly. Some of the diagrams are dense and I had to reread a few sections, though that may just be me. Solid, and I would buy another book from this author without hesitation.
Hard to recommend. The examples assume too much and explain too little.
I had been on the fence about this one for a while, and I should have bought it sooner. I appreciated the honesty about what the book does not cover — it saved me from expecting things that were not there. The balance between theory and practice is well judged; neither side dominates. I would look elsewhere unless you have a specific reason to need this particular title.
A useful guide. The examples assume a particular environment, but that is fixable.
This is the third book I have read on javascript this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. The index and cross-references are surprisingly good, which matters for a book I will come back to. The book rewards careful reading. Skimming it would be a mistake. Good value for the price and worth the time it takes to work through properly.
A worthwhile addition to my shelf, with realistic expectations.

A few of the examples could be more realistic, but the underlying points come across clearly. The code samples assume a particular environment, which took a bit of fiddling to get running properly. The progression from chapter to chapter is well thought out; nothing feels out of order. Good value for the price and worth the time it takes to work through properly.
